Model

Andrea Hüther, 19, born in Germany, living in Belgium.
When and how did you get scouted?
I got scouted on a schooltrip to Amsterdam when I was 16, in front of the Central Station when we were having a guided tour. I was always the quiet and invisible type, so the amount of attention I got from the group when the scout approached me was overwhelming, it was really nice though. I’ve been with that agency ever since, and now I’ve finished school, I’m fully gonna focus on modelling.
Favorite animal and why?
Personality traits or any similarities you have with your favorite animal?
My favourite animal would be the lion. They are strong, majestic animals. I like that they have big hair just like me, and my zodiac sign is Leo. They also sleep 20 hours a day, which means they’re pretty lazy and that reminds me of myself.
Describe your personal style and what influences your style?
My style is really casual, I just like to throw on whatever I find in my wardrobe. I never wear tight clothes, unless I have to, and wear sweatpants most of the time. I’m a sneakerhead, any shoes other than sneakers are just uncomfortable or ugly to me. I choose comfort over looking stylish, but a combination of both is the absolute best, and is when I feel the most confident.
How did you get into modeling or deciding modeling was what you want?
My mom used to be a model, and my stepdad is a photographer, so it has kind of always been a subject in my family. When I got scouted, I immediatly got their full support, which I’m really grateful for. I hope I can make them proud someday!
Something you learnt about modeling industry?
That you need to have thick skin. There’s alot of criticism and rejection you have to deal with. I’m a very nonchalant person, I just shrug it off, see what I can improve and move on. I know some other girls have it alot harder, but it’s part of the job.
An assumption you had about modeling and being a model?
I assumed it was all glitter and glamour, but mostly it isn’ haha... Sometimes you have a photoshoot in extreme heat or extreme cold, sometimes you have a show where the shoes don’t fit, sometimes you go hungry all day because there is barely any catering, sometimes you work hard and the pay is bad.. But I’m fine with all of this. You learn alot, and you stay in touch with reality instead of getting pampered all the time.
How are you of Nigerian/German descent?
My mom is Nigerian, my dad is German, they just happened to meet in Nigeria and my mom moved to Europe so my siblings and me would have a better life than hers.
Where does the name Andrea come from and what is the meaning of it?
I got named after my uncle, Andreas, who was a big help to my mom when things sometimes got difficult. Originally, it’s a Greek name meaning ‘warrior’. I like what it means, but I still think it’s a really old fashioned name..
How often do you face comparisons? And how do you approach or deal with them?
I never compare myself to anyone. I used to when I was younger, but I’m past that phase because it’s toxic and literally useless. I am who I am, and can’t and shouldn’t be compared to anyone else.

Your most interesting transformation thus far?
I got to be a vampire with blonde pieces in my hair for an interesting, Dracula inspired shoot in a castle that's coming out soon.
Being signed to four agencies around the world, what does that entail?
It pretty much just means I travel there for work sometimes and it's easier to be represented by a local agency because of legal stuff, taxes, etc.
Do you think that maybe some of your drive to be a model was motivated by maybe a wanderlust or desire to travel? What are other aspects of being a model drove you into it?
Not really.. I've never really been into travelling that much to be honest, before I got into modelling I was a really lazy stay-at-home person. But now I've seen some of the world and realised how beautiful it is, I long for more, and hope to be able to do that through modelling.
How often have you had to make adjustments or changes to your hair, your body or any physical features? For work.
My entire body needed to more toned. I needed to make changes all over. That included changing my diet completely and working out every day. This was really hard in the beginning, I got mental breakdowns and everything, but great sacrifices bring great rewards so I just did it!
What are some of the things you have learnt while traveling? More so about yourself?
I learnt to be independent, responsible and not to be gullible and naive. This really helps me in my daily life. I didn't learn much about myself honestly, except for the fact that I will always prefer spending Friday and Saturday nights at home instead of at a club or bar haha.
Your time in the industry?
I started modelling in September, 2017. Before that, I was still in school. I did some shoots on the weekends every few months, but I've only really started when I graduated from high school.
How often do you wear makeup when you’re not working? What has made you more comfortable and confident without wearing makeup?
I never wear makeup in my free time, I don't even own it except for mascara and concealer for castings, and like three lipsticks I never wear anyway. I don't like how it feels on my skin and what it does do it, I always get red spots and pimples. I feel more confident without makeup, because I know I look like the real me, and I still feel beautiful. Natural beauty is the best beauty there is!
Would you advise your little sister to go into modeling? Why or why not?
I honestly wouldn't. My littler sister is twelve and already has ambitions, and I want her to follow her heart and never regret what she is doing. She once stated she prefers standing behind the camera over standing in front of it, so I would never talk her into doing something she doesn't even want to do, no matter how cool it might seem.
A place where you’re most at peace and in touch with your self?
Sitting at my desk playing video games. Some old habits and hobbies just never die.
I imagined myself in university studying languages to be a translator in court, I never thought I would actually work as a model, but I'm really glad I do.
A language you would love to learn and be fluent in?
The funniest or most embarrassing thing to ever happen to you on set?
I'm a rrreally awkward person so I can't really point out my 'most embarrassing' thing, anything and everything I do seems embarrassing to me..
The dumbest or most interesting thing on your bucket list ?
Playing 'Niggas in Paris' by Kanye West and Jay-Z while visiting Paris. Really dumb, but I was so hyped when I could finally do it haha.
A word you struggle to pronounce or understand?
Advocates. Not sure if pronounced as advo-kates, or advo-cuts..

I may share my name with someone else out there but Andrea Hüther is...
...the only Andrea Hüther that isn't blonde haired and blue eyed.
